Singh is Kinng!

[This post does not necessarily reflect my political inclination and I do not support any political party discussed here]

The hungama over the trust vote was one of the best thriller movies I had seen in the last few years - rich with deceit, conspiracy, fights, drama and a thriller climax. The MPs, whose picture could have easily be found on railway notice boards and in police station's most wanted boards, waving wads of cash was the cheapest and most degrading. Well, we are not surprised but do not try to show that you are such an clean and straightforward politician. My hunch is that those MPs would have probably demanded something more than 9 Cr and since it was not given they decided to play holy and expose the 'money for vote'. None of the MPs from the opposition camp did say one negative point in the deal. Well the deal might have drawbacks but they could have pointed that out to have clauses effected to counter that!

All in all, the Nuclear deal was very much in the countries interest. It is very essential for our energy security. Probably the BJP and allies would have wanted their children and grandchildren to be living in a country that resembles something from the 18 century or probably the village the Dr. Manmohan Singh lived when he was a kid. This deal is very important in asserting India position. We need such deals so that China takes us seriously (China is fast becoming a major threat to us both interms of security and as a able competitor in economy). This deal would be a passport to trade with more than 45 NSG and this would greatly benefit us.

The BJP would have gone for the deal if it had some more time when it was in power. Now why oppose it just for the sake of opposing the government. That is very appalling! 'Prime Minister in waiting' LK Advani cut a very cheap and sorry figure both in his speech by leveling personal abuses on a Dr. Singh who is a highly regarded economist and has such high credentials. 'The weakest Prime Minister' like comments was highly uncalled for. Dr. Singh's speech was a right answer to opposite camp. Dr. Singh had the last laugh!

Personally, I was impressed with NC's Omar Abdullah's speech - “I am a Muslim and I am an Indian,” he began. “And I see no distinction between the two. I don’t know why should I fear the nuclear deal. It is a deal between two countries which, I hope, will become two equals in the future,” said Abdullah. “The enemies of Indian Muslims are not America or deals like these. The enemies are the same as the enemies of all those who are poor — poverty, hunger, lack of development and the absence of a voice.”

As an Indian, I would have loved to see a consensus on such an important step for independant India (atleast a 75% -25%) but a victory of 51.79% to 48.21% (ignoring the absentees and others) was not quite heart warming. In the end Dr. Manmohan Singh proved that Singh is Kingg
