The Operation Blue Star started because of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale who was the controversial leader of the Damdami Taksal, a Sikh religious group based in India. Incidentally the operation was commanded by Kuldip Singh Brar
This lead to the assassination of Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India by her Sikh bodyguards
This was followed by the Anti Sikh riots in Nov 1984, which witnessed more than 3000 Sikhs being massacred.
25 years later - 10 commissions and still an unsolved case with controversial individuals being given clean chits prompted journalist Jarnail Singh to fling a shoe at Home Minister P. Chidambaram
