- The Operation Blue Star started because of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale who was the controversial leader of the Damdami Taksal, a Sikh religious group based in India. Incidentally the operation was commanded by Kuldip Singh Brar
- This lead to the assassination of Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India by her Sikh bodyguards
- This was followed by the Anti Sikh riots in Nov 1984, which witnessed more than 3000 Sikhs being massacred.
- 25 years later - 10 commissions and still an unsolved case with controversial individuals being given clean chits prompted journalist Jarnail Singh to fling a shoe at Home Minister P. Chidambaram
